An iCite is, most simply a way to create an online list. iCite lists are made up of links to information, including links to other lists.

iCites encourage and help you package the information that you list, so that it can be easily shared and reused by yourself and/or others.

iCites help you make lists and packages of information that you can use and share across all kinds of applications and between lots of people.

iCites have many built-in features that make them convenient to access, especially by other iCites. The iCite net is the network of iCites, which is a kind-of information ecosystem.

iCites can function as, or as part of, websites. But iCites can also function as desktop or mobile applications. iCites can be embedded in a variety of applications and tools such as blogs, discussion forums, and personal information managers. And iCites can be accessed through a number of network protocols.

iCite information can be stored and accessed in a number of different formats, including many flavors of XML. The software that runs iCites can be written in a variety of computing languages.

the iCite net is currently in development. When the iCite net prototype launches, this entire website will be accessible as iCites with the intention of demonstrating what iCites are and how they work.
