Dan Gillmor's post Microsoft Uber Alles uses the phrase "digital restrictions management software", which I think is the best refactoring I have heard of the DRM acronym to describe what most biggie companies are thinking about DRM.

I was starting to use "digital rights enforcement", but I like using DRE for "digital rights expression", which I think Lawrence Lessig coined when talking about Creative Commons.

I posted some good links and thoughts about DRM and DRE in May, in my poorly titled Good readings this morning.

Looking back at this earlier post, I see that I promised to post about iCites for DRM and DRE and that I haven't done that yet. OK, need to do that still.
