Internet parody songs day

posted: Aug 5, 2003 2:47:27 PM

Christian Crumlish recently posted his lyrics, The Day the Blogging Died, which is based on Don McLean's famous American Pie [pdf, also this RealVideo].

Now, The First Blog Hearld Challenge is offering a $20 prize to the first person to record the song with Christian's lyrics. [sourced via Boing Boing]

I am tempted to record this, because Christian came up with clever words and it would be a fun effort in the Weird Al genre of fun. And, hey, actually at this point, I could really use the twenty bucks!

But, for some reason, ever since I was a kid, I have found this song pretty annoying. And, an annoying song with lyrics that are essentially highlighting recently annoying things about certain blog cliques probably should be restricted under FCC broadcast regulations.

And, you know, I need to keep my artistic integrity (continue starving and all) and I should probably aspire to do more serious work, like a rendition of Revolution is not an AOL Keyword, which also happens to be based on a song I have loved since I was a kid: Gil Scott-Heron's The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

You will not be able to stay home, dear Netizen. . .

Given that there's also "For the Benefit of Mr. Tim" and the original parody, "We Didn't Start the Weblogs" I think we're well on the way to at least one side (showing my age, LP bias) of a benefit album...
