Harvard magazine articles on dissonance and infants, bibliocide, and lynching

posted: Oct 8, 2003 1:38:18 PM

Today's Electronic Musician Xtra e-newsletter had a link to an article about infant responses to dissonant music, called Tiny Music Critics, in the Harvard Magazine online. I found this an interesting article

Also in the same issue are two interesting articles on very sad subjects:

Bibliocide, about "The largest single act of book burning in modern history [that] took place in 1992 when, on August 25, Serb nationalist forces began a three-day incendiary assault on the National and University Library of Bosnia"

and

Lynching as Human Sacrifice, about how "35 to 40 percent of the lynchings [of African-Americans, after the Civil War] qualified as bona fide human sacrifices, serving the same functions that such sacrifices do in any society that practices them".
