The other day, in my CSS freak-flags wave high post, I linked to Sam Ruby's blog, noting its orange sunshine colors.
Today I noticed a comment from Sam on his site indicating he would be changing the color back to blue (and also indicating that the orange color was for seasonal, Halloween, purposes). So, I was hasty in implying that Sam might be totally tripping on orange sunshine—the whole orange thing is actually kind-of logical.
So, the whole orange thing means something to me (because I have said things about it), but that orange information is only so-called "presentation", and not given much, if any, semantic, machine-readable respect.
With Sam about to change his site color, that meaning gets lost except in posts like this, any archives Sam keeps of his site, and maybe some Google cache or Internet Archive Wayback Machine store.
The main thing about this that I want to note is that the color of Sam's site had meaning more than simply some interchangeable "presentation" of underlying data, but the data of orange is not being stored or made accessible in an equivalent manner as other data on the site. In general, there might be some benefit if this kind of thing were given some more respect.
(Am I tripping now, or what?)
