Since David Weinberger publicly referred to me as Jay "Misspells His Own Last Name" Fienberg (which is actually along the lines of what my family members call each other in private), I thought I ought to publicly explain.

My family name, Fienberg, is an American name given to my great grandfather at Ellis Island. And, this name, being American, of course follows the English, "i before e, except after c" rule.

Now, David has some kind of strange, foreign looking spelling in his family name. If I were him, I would think about 'mericanizing my name to either Ceinberger or Wienberger.
