news and thoughts on and around the development
of the iCite net

I just installed blojsom, which is a blog tool written in Java in the style of bloxsom (which is written in Perl). I have already been experimenting with Roller, which I think is great, but I think I will work / play better with a more stripped down blog tool.
One interest I have with blojsom and bloxom is that they both have a plug-in architecture, and their core blog bits seem pretty minimum-optimum. Also, because I am already working in Java, I am thinking that a iCite-with-blogs prototype built around blojsom might, at least conceptually, port very easily to bloxsom.
I probably really should take the opportunity to advance my Perl skills and just work in bloxsom and take advantage of all of its features in the iCite-with-blogs prototype, but I think working all in Java will help me get the iCite prototypes up and running faster. In general, I think the core iCite software is going to be pretty easy to port to different languages, and I hope people will feel inspired to integrate it with other blog tools. I also think I will feel more comfortable making first-implementation-mistakes in Java, since I am at home with Java-flavored bugs ;-)
