Read the San Francisco Muni exposé

If you live or regularly spend time in San Francisco, I recommend that you read the cover story in the current SF Weekly, volume 22, number 27 (August 6 - 12, 2003): Death, Maiming, Money, and Muni, by Peter Byrne. This article paints a scary picture of what probably can be called the most accident-prone public transit system in the US.

I love the Muni trains (I live nearest the "J" now) and totally love having such accessible public transportation (compared with LA, where I grew up, and to other places I have lived). But, I have seen Muni buses doing truly scary things and, unfortunately, can easily imagine the horrible incidents described in this article.
