KMWorld: Content Management for the Mobile Workforce, part 2

posted: Oct 16, 2003 11:49:17 PM

I am at the KMWorld conference in Santa Clara.

Vernon Imrich is up with his slideshow titled "Content Management and Multi-Channel Publishing". He is talking about Percussion's Rhythmyx enterprise CMS software.

Shift over the last few years away from trying to get content on every type of device, to a more productivity oriented process for delivering content to different channels. Dot coms are now gone, but now traditional business are facing some of the same challenges, just driven by more traditional business drivers.

Today, not as much content reuse, but content dependencies. So, you are creating new content, and not reusing old content, but new content is based on earlier content. Changes need to pervade the content versions.

Also, people are not all moving to the latest application architectures: people still have content in legacy systems, and need CMS to integrate with those.

Another shift: away from the device centric view of delivery channels. With XML, a lot of device issues have been removed. The way of talking about channels now is more traditional, tied to particular customers using particular applications, like HR. CMS being used to manage content channels, for example HR or CRM customer.
