YAML, a data interchange format to consider

posted: Oct 9, 2003 5:19:54 PM

Sam Ruby has a post about an Atom2Yaml conversion and comparison between Atom in XML and YAML. I hadn't previously heard of YAML Ain't Markup (YAML) before this post, obviously owing to my being lost in a similar parallel universe as the one that got Joi Ito (see his All Your Base Are Belong to Us post).

Anyway, YAML looks neat (e.g., YAML spec) and is something I will consider using for the iCite net, probably later than sooner.

There is a YAML Parser written in Java. And, Syck is the YAML parser for Ruby, Python, PHP and OCaml being used in the Atom XML vs YAML comparison.

Why the lucky stiff is working on a set of queries in YAML to match Sam's XPath queries of Atom XML. This will be interesting to see, as the utility of XPath is one of the things making me think I couldn't use YAML as the my base format for iCites.

Why the lucky stiff is progressing as I type this—he just posted on The Pickup Game: Syntax and is talking about YPath, which is like XPath for YAML.
