IA Fringe Festival / Between Cathedrals and Bazaars

posted: Jan 26, 2006 2:03:38 PM

The 2006 Information Architecture Summit is coming up, in Vancouver, B.C., in March, and I'll be attending (the program looks great, and I'm looking forward to seeing / meeting lots of folks). I actually had submitted a proposal to present, but my topic wasn't accepted (which is OK because I've ended up being really busy with other things).

So, while I'm not actually presenting this at the IA Summit, I wanted to make available my proposal: Between Cathedrals and Bazaars: Complementary Architectures for Control and Freedom of Information.

I thought I'd suggest that this be part of a kind-of IA Fringe Festival (fyi: Wikipedia entry on Fringe Festival). I'm not thinking of presenting this at an alternative venue during the IA Summit, but just wanted to post my proposal and invite more discussion (online and/or in person) about this topic.

I also wanted to encourage others, who have these kinds of not-accepted proposals, to post them online. Please let me know (e.g., via comments or trackbacks here)—what's maybe on the fringe is often really interesting.

Finally, you might notice that I posted my proposal on the Juxtaprose domain. I running a bit behind on this (again: busy with other things), but I'll soon be launching a totally new Juxtaprose site and blog where my co-Juxtaproseans and I will be blogging about topics more relevant to the actual "day job" of doing information architecture / user experience design / content strategy and management / web design and development, etc.

(And, of course, this here blog on the iCite net will continue to focus on the need for and creation of web idioms and different web curios :-)
