A recent post by Danny Ayers brings together some RDF and RDBMS writings, around the issue of "missing" information. This got me into catching up on Date's, Darwen's, and Pascal's various writings at Database Debunkings. A couple particularly interesting, recent, writings (relevant to Danny's post):
In a comment on Danny's post, I mention Mark Nottingham's three posts on data modeling, all referenced from his XML Infoset, RDF and Data Modelling, which, I think, are a good perspective coming from (I assume) more the RDF / XML perspective than from RDBMS. (For completeness: I also mentioned Mark's posts in my post, What did you just say? On data markup.)
I notice that there is a new Date and Darwen (and Lorentzos) book, Temporal Data & the Relational Model. My own past work in relational database system design included some focus on temporal data (actually, I think, along the lines of what is most important about RSS, i.e., timestamping at a granular level, effective globally). So, I might get a copy of this (hm, wonder if I can handle reading really tech books still . . .)
Also, via The Third Manifesto website: Rel - An Implementation of Date and Darwen's "Tutorial D", which is written in Java and available under GPL license.
