Overrated is overrated is overrated

Having spent way too much time on this blog yaking about tags and hierarchy (I even made diagrams!), I certainly had moments of temptation to turn Clay Shirky's "Ontology is Overrated" title against him in the way that Peter Merholz finally has. Peter's Clay Shirky's Viewpoints are Overrated is highly recommended for anyone interested in this topic.

(btw, my big temptation was to title something: "Ontology Is Overrated Is Overrated". But, that would just escalate things and someone else would go and write "Ontology Is Overrated Is Overrated Is Overrated", and then a rebuttal would appear as "Ontology Is Overrated Is Overrated Is Overrated Is Overrated", etc. Didn't seem right for blogs—maybe just save that for plainsong.)

Update: Gene Smith has posted his Ontology is Overrated follow-up, which is also highly recommended.
